The first of nine all-candidates meetings for Saanich council hopefuls is in the bag.
Hosted by the Victoria Real Estate Board Monday, councillor candidates had the opportunity to speak on such issues as legalizing secondary suites, light rail on Douglas Street and McKenzie Avenue and slow processing of building permits.

Personal background: My wife, Keeley, and I have both lived in Saanich for over twenty years. We grew up and went to school here, and we're thrilled that our children will grow up in this very special place. We have a two-year-old son and are expecting a baby in April. We have two dogs – a beagle and a golden retriever.

Several incumbent politicians have filed their candidacy papers in recent days.
In Saanich, councillors Paul Gerrard and Dean Murdock both announced they will run again. Each was first elected to council in 2008.
Gerrard, who owns a construction company, has a long history of community involvement in the Gorge Tillicum area.
He was instrumental in getting the Saanich Centennial Library in the community when chairman of the Greater Victoria Public Library Board.

Murdock officially enters Saanich race; transportation and affordability key priorities
Victoria – The municipal election race officially gets underway this week with candidate nominations. This morning Councillor Dean Murdock filed his papers for re-election to Saanich Council and the CRD Board.
Change in the air as more declare for civic elections

The campaign doesn't officially begin until nominations close Oct. 14, but the number of people declaring for municipal office is growing almost daily.
And it's already shaping up to be a civic election that could see a lot of change in the municipal landscape.
In View Royal, Coun. Andrew Britton has announced he will challenge incumbent Mayor Graham Hill for that municipality's top job. Britton says he wants to attract more business development to the municipality to diversify the tax base.

Victoria – The municipal election race is heating up in Saanich. Councillor Dean Murdock announced today that he will seek re-election to Saanich Council this fall.

Some very familiar faces will vie for your support come November when municipal elections are held to vote in your next council.
Of the eight sitting councillors in Saanich, all but three have outright confirmed they will run for re-election. Councillors Wayne Hunter, Vic Derman and Lief Wergeland all say they will make that decision in the summer.
