Cedar Hill Golf Course up for public discussion again tonight

A second special meeting of Saanich Council for public input into the sustainability of the Cedar Hill Golf Course is set for tonight.

The issue has been a hot-topic in the municipality after it was announced that the district-owned course was facing a $300,000 dollar deficit.

Councillor Dean Murdock sees the public consultation as an opportunity.

"This is an opportunity. I think we have an opportunity to have a discussion with the public about what kind of services and operation is offered at the golf course in addition to golf; (and) to take advantage of that recreation precinct which adjoins the Cedar Hill Rec Centre. What are the things we can do to bring those services together? And how can we enhance the services at the golf course to bring more users in?"

Council will be asked to vote on a recommendation from staff following the public input tonight. That report suggests green and pass fees be increased, while offering pass-holders a reduced number of rounds.

The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 tonight at the Garth Homer Centre.
