I am running for Mayor of Saanich because I love this community and I know we can make it even better, together. I've spent over 20 years as a community volunteer and a Saanich Councillor working hard to make Saanich a better place for our children and grandchildren.
This pandemic has shown us the difference governments can make in people's lives when they choose to work together. People in Saanich expect their leaders to work together to make life better in Saanich. On affordability, walkability, climate change, and a healthy environment. We can choose better.
Together, we can create walkable neighbourhoods, affordable family-suitable homes, and a healthy natural environment with clean air to breathe and natural spaces to enjoy. We can make Saanich better, together.
I was born in Richmond, BC, and moved to Saanich with my family when I was in Grade 6. I grew up in Cordova Bay and graduated from Claremont Secondary.
After high school, I attended Camosun College and the University of Victoria. I completed Bachelors and Masters degrees in Social Sciences at UVic.
When I finished University, I lived and travelled in Japan, where I worked as an English teacher.
After traveling abroad, I moved back to the Island and got involved in the community. Joining the Quadra Cedar Hill Community Association and Sierra Club of Victoria.
I was elected to Saanich Council in 2008. At that time, I was Saanich’s youngest member of Council.
I served three terms as a Councillor and a term as CRD Director.
During my three terms on Saanich Council, I saw the difference that local government can make when we work together. When we take the time to listen. I worked with Saanich residents and my Council colleagues to push for housing affordability, creating food security, cutting carbon emissions, and making life safer for people walking and biking.
I am a champion for healthier, more engaged communities. I work for the Ministry of Health as the Provincial Lead for Healthy Communities. I have a background in stakeholder engagement and project management.
I teach a course at Camosun College and host a podcast about community-building called Amazing Places.
I am husband to my incredible partner, Rachel, and dad to two wonderful children, Caelum and Avery (ages 9 and 12). We have a 14-year-old beagle named Bella.
I’m a coffee-drinker, guitar player and enjoy biking and running.
I’m running for Mayor because I know that we can do more to make Saanich an even better place to live, and an even better place for our children and grandchildren to call their home.
Let's make Saanich better, together.
